Project & Production Management

Producing Christmas gifts for Air New Zealand's 12,000 strong crew.

The biggest project I worked on during my time with Fly Creative was the design and production of Air New Zealand’s christmas gifts for their 12,000 strong crew. It started with a sales pitch and a presentation of an idea to Air New Zealand who loved it and ran with it.

The idea was to produce a set of designer tins that would carry the artwork of 2 renowned New Zealand artists – Shane Hansen and Flox. 6,000 tins would carry Shane’s design, with the other 6,000 carrying Flox’s. Inside the tins would contain a set of drinking tumblers, a designer tea towel, a children’s colouring-in booklet, a greeting card and a journal. All of these items (bar the journal) would carry the artwork present on their respective tins.

The project took a total of 7 months and required a large amount planning through logistics and production, which involved suppliers and producers from both China and across New Zealand.

Although my involvement in design was limited, I was the project and production manager for this job which saw me:

  • Handling the $300,000 budget.
  • Liaising with local and overseas producers.
  • Working out the tin and packaging dimensions to house all the internal items.
